Why won't microsoft word do a spelling/grammar check?! I've got all the options on...?

So I've just written a 1500 word essay. Anything I type before it or after it will be underlined in red if it is wrong, but nothing I type wrong in the actual 1500 words in between will be spell checked. What is happening!? I'll be so greatful for any help. Thanks!
